Kansas Southwestern Railway

Kansas South Western Railway (AAR reporting mark: KSW ) was a Class 3 railroad company in the state of Kansas in the United States with headquarters in Wichita.

History

The railway company was founded in 1991 by the railway company Omnitrax and the Investment Company Chicago West Pullman Transportation to perform on several previous sections of the Missouri Pacific Railroad freight. From the Union Pacific Railroad ( successor to the MP) were first leased the following routes from 14 April 1991 Wichita - Hutchinson Geneso (140 km), Wichita Anthony Hardtner (153 km) and Conway Springs Kingman Radium (154 km). The route Olcott - Iuka (32 km) could not be driven because of legal disputes. In 1998, the acquisition of the routes. In the aftermath of the line was closed all other routes to Hardtner up on track after Geneso and the section to Conway Springs. In April 2000, the Company merged into the Central Kansas Railway. In June 2001, Watco Companies acquired this company and led them away as Kansas and Oklahoma Railroad.

Infrastructure

Transitions existed at the Union Pacific Railroad in Wichita and Geneseo, the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railroad in Wichita and Hutchinson. Important goods transported were grain, fertilizer, agricultural products and chemicals. Mitt 1990s were transported 35,000 freight cars per year.

1996, the Company had eleven locomotives ( EMD GP7 three, eight EMD GP9 ). Some of the locomotives were from the Grand Trunk Western Railroad.
