Kapu Rajaiah

Rajaiah Kapu ( Telugu: కాపు రాజయ్య; born April 6, 1925 in Siddipet, † August 20, 2012 ) was an Indian painter.

Life

Rajaiah came from a poor family from the located in the district of Medak Town Siddipet. He studied at the Central School of Arts and Crafts in Hyderabad and started with tempera before he moved to oil paints. He gained fame with paintings that were based on the folk art and rural life of his native region of Telangana. His style of Nakashi Art prescribed works were often compared with those of the Bengali artist Jamini Roy and portray traditional festivities, people, and other facets of village life in Andhra Pradesh as Vaddera Mahila, Yellamma Jogi, Gopika Krishna, Kolatam, Bonalu and Bathukamma.
