Karadeniz Ereğli (. Abg Kdz Ereğli ) or short Ereğli (at the time of the Ottoman Empire: Bender -i Ereğli ) is a town and district of Zonguldak Province in the western Black Sea region of Turkey. The city has about 100,000 inhabitants and is home to the largest steel mill in Turkey owned by the steel company Erdemir. The city dates back to the ancient Heraclea Pontica; the name Ereğli derived from Heraclea.
