Käravete ( German Kerrafer ) is a village (Estonian alevik ) in the Estonian rural community Ambla ( German traffic light) in a circle Järva ( German Jerwen ). The village is 10 km from Jäneda ( German Jendel or Jenneda ) away. It has 288 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2006).

By Käravete the small river Ambla (Estonian Ambla Jõgi ) flows. In 1979, the water was dammed to form an artificial, 2.6 acre lake on the site of an old mill pond where are native since 1991 perch.

Approximately 1.5 km from the present-day town is a prehistoric place of sacrifice, the so-called Nõiamägi. The hills covered a grove of pines. Käravete was first mentioned in 1540 in records under the name Kiriver. The place is located on historic overland road Piibe maantee.

Architecture

The estate of Kerrafer ( Käravete mõis ) was founded in the early 17th century. The present mansion dates from the second half of the 18th century. It was built in the classical style story. In the 1820s, it was expanded to include a representative portico. Listed building are also a bridge made ​​of granite and two historic garden vases of the early 20th century.

During the Soviet occupation of Estonia in the manor house a cultural center was housed with a library and cinema. Today it is privately owned.
