Karekin II Kazanjian of Constantinople

Karekin II Kazanjian (Armenian Գարեգին Բ Գազանճյան, born May 18, 1927 in Istanbul, † March 10, 1998 ibid ) was Archbishop and Patriarch of Constantinople Opel of the Armenian Apostolic Church.

Life

After his school education in Getronagan High School in Istanbul Bedros Kazanjian entered ( bürgerl. name) in 1949 in the seminar of the Armenian Patriarchate of Jerusalem, was a deacon in 1945 and ordained a presbyter in 1950. 1946-1951 he worked as a teacher in Jerusalem. In 1951 he returned to Istanbul to work there in the formation of priests. At 1953 opened Holy Cross seminary, he served as dean and professor of classical and modern Armenian literature.

In 1959 he went to the USA and became chaplain to the Armenian St. Mary's Church in Washington DC. On 24 October 1966 he was ordained a bishop. Until 1981 he was the first primate the newly established Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church Australia. From March 1981 to September 5, 1990, he served as wholesale sacristan of the Armenian Patriarchate of Jerusalem and taught at the local seminary.

On October 13, 1990, he was appointed to the Armenian Patriarch of Constantinople Opel and the whole Turkey. On March 10, 1998, he died in the Armenian Redeemer Hospital in Istanbul ( Yedikule ).
