Kári Kristjánsson

Kári Kristján Kristjánsson ( born October 28, 1984 in Vestmannaeyjar, Iceland ) is an Icelandic handball player.

The 1.94 m wide circle runner plays in the Danish first division club Bjerringbro - Silkeborg, as well as for the Icelandic national handball team.

Career

Kristjánsson played in his youth at the Icelandic clubs Þór Vestmannaeyjum and ÍBV before he was discovered by the first division Haukar Hafnarfjörður. Here he gained international experience in European club competitions. He played in the seasons 2005/ 06 and 2008/ 09 in the EHF Champions League in the season 2006/07 EHF Cup and the 2008/09 EHF Cup Winners Cup. For the 2009/10 season he was engaged by Amicitia Zurich and also used in the EHF Champions League. With Amicitia Kristjánsson reached the Swiss runner-up this season. For the season 2010/11 HSG Wetzlar brought the county runner in the Handball - Bundesliga. On April 4, 2013, his contract was terminated without notice by the HSG Wetzlar, after he ran aground in spite of sick leave and without the consent of the Association for the Icelandic national team. In the summer of 2013 he joined the Danish first division club Bjerringbro - Silkeborg.

In the Men's Handball World Championship 2011 in Sweden Kristjánsson played his first major international tournament as a national team and reached Iceland in sixth place. In the European Handball Championship 2012 in Serbia, he reached the tenth place with Iceland. In summer 2012, he participated in the Olympic Games in London.
