Karin Melis Mey

Karin Mey Melis (born Karin Mey, born 31 May 1983) is a Turkish long jumper of South African origin.

It was 2004 South African champion in the long jump and participated for her native country at the 2005 Summer Universiade in Izmir, where they finished sixth.

On June 30, 2008, she received Turkish citizenship and launched since internationally for Turkey. She participated in the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing part, failed there but already in the qualification. Also at the European Indoor Championships 2009 in Turin, they missed the final. Both times she remained well below its potential.

Her international breakthrough finally succeeded at the 2009 World Championships in Berlin. With a length of 6.80 m, she won behind Brittney Reese from the U.S. and Tatyana Lebedeva of Russia the bronze medal. At the IAAF World Indoor Athletics Championships 2010 in Doha, Mey Melis but failed to qualify for the final. In 2011 she finished eighth at the World Championships in Daegu.

At the European Championships in 2012 Mey Melis jumped to fifth place. At the European Championships she made ​​a positive doping test. Because the IAAF learned about it too late, she could still compete in the Olympic Games in London and reached the final. Once there, they could no longer compete.

Karin Mey Melis has a competition weight of 56 kg at a height of 1.72 m and starts for Fenerbahce.
