Karius and Bactus

Karius and Baktus ( Karius above Baktus ) is a Norwegian puppet film from 1954, which is designed to encourage children to brush your teeth. It is based on the 1949 published in Norway children's book by Thorbjørn Egner. Directed by Ivo Caprino. The voice of Baktus was dubbed in the German version of Hans Clarin.

Action

The black-haired Karius and the red-haired Baktus are two bacteria ( tooth trolls ) who live in the child's mouth Max ( in the Norwegian original is called the child Jens ). There they have already in the molar homey decor and then spread to the canine. Since Max is not brushing the teeth and often eats sweets ( cakes ), the two have a beautiful life. Munter they work with pick and jackhammer the teeth of Max, who of course gets them bad toothache. The mother asks Max to then finally to brush your teeth. When Max does this, the Karius and Baktus do not like and they have to in their homes (holes) hide. But even there they are not safe long as Max finally goes to the dentist. The eliminates the buildings of Karius and Baktus and fills the holes with seals. Now, the bacteria can no longer hide and be flushed out of your mouth at the next brushing. There, they end up first in the spout and finally in the sea, where they float on a raft and look for someone who is not brushing her teeth.

Radioplay

In 1980 a radio play version in the Label Europa. Karius and Baktus were spoken by Karl -Ulrich Mewes and Gernot end of man, the narrator was Horst Wide. Several Toothbrush songs were built into the radio play, sung by Wolfgang Kubach.

Book

The book enjoyed numerous editions in Germany and later in the unified Germany. In the GDR, it was not misplaced. The Zahnteufelchen Karius and Baktus were in children symbol for holes ( cavities ) in the teeth. For a long time the children's book, the only one in Germany on the subject of dental care. From about 1995 there were on the German book market formally a glut of children's books on the subject of dental care.
