Karl Friedrich Köppen

Karl Friedrich Koppen ( born April 26, 1808 in Lower Goerne, Circle Osterburg in the Altmark, † April 26, 1863 in Berlin) was a teacher and a political journalist, historian and Young Hegelians.

Life

Koppen comes from a family of pastors Altmark. He studied from 1827 to 1831 in Berlin at the Friedrich- Wilhelms- University theology, but later turned to the religion critical to Young Hegelianism. After his studies and military service, he became a teacher in 1833 at the Berlin Dorotheenstädtischer secondary school. In 1837 he met Karl Marx and concluded with him a close friend. In 1840 he became one of the most active employees, edited by Arnold Ruge Hallischen Yearbooks ( 1841: German Yearbooks ). He has written many reviews on political and scientific literature. The contemporary journalistic practice accordingly, are strongly influenced by its reviews own opinions. So Köppen began for a renewal of the Enlightenment and was opponents of classical literature, idealistic philosophy and romance.
