Karl Joseph Hieronymus Windischmann

Karl Joseph Hieronymus Windischmann ( born August 24, 1775 in Mainz, † April 23, 1839 in Bonn) was a physician, philosopher and anthropologist.

Life

Born and raised in Mainz, he studied there from 1787 philosophy. Due to the French invasion in 1792, he had to go to the University of Würzburg, where he advanced to the specialist medical his studies and in 1796 received his doctorate. After spending a year in Vienna in 1797, he returned back to Mainz to practice there. In 1801 he went to Aschaffenburg and Hofmedicus was at the court of the Elector Friedrich Karl Joseph von Erthal. 1803 he was appointed professor of philosophy and history. Soon after, he received the title of Royal Medizinalrats.

In 1818 he was appointed to the newly founded University of Bonn, where he not only taught history and philosophy, but also as a professor of medical school pathology and history of medicine las. Windisch man let himself be drawn into the controversy over the " Hermesianism " and issued an opinion against Georg Hermes, which significantly led to the rejection of " Hermesianism ". Windischmann issued a series of writings, most recently the " Philosophical Lectures " of his deceased friend Friedrich Schlegel. 1839 died Windischmann in Bonn.

His son Charles -Joseph Windischmann was born 1807 in Aschaffenburg and was Professor of Anatomy in Leuven.
