Karl Kesel

Karl Kesel (* 1959) is an American comic book writer and signatory.

Life and work

Kesel has most of his professional life so initially spent as a technical pen, later working as a writer for the U.S. publishing giant DC Comics and Marvel Comics. Currently operated Kesel, whose work is primarily influenced by the all-round artist Jack Kirby, as a freelance writer for the so-called Mercury Studio.

For DC Kesel since the mid- 1980s, worked as a technical pen. Among other things, he was commissioned in the years after 1986 so that pencil drawings by John Byrne for the flagship title of the publisher, the comic series Superman to revise the so-called inking process.

As an author, he did the first time around 1990 as a writer of the series Hawk and Dove forth, which he shared with his temporary wife, Barbara Randall, supervised. There followed some backup stories for the young adventurer of the Newsboy Legion for the Action Comics series before Kesel was hired in 1993 as a master writer of the series Adventures of Superman, which he wrote until 1999, almost six years. As a signatory artists like Tom Grummett, Barry Kitson and Stuart Immonen were placed at his side during these years. Together with Grummett created Kesel 1993, the modern version of the superhero Superboy ( "Kon El " ) whose own series, he was an author from 1993 to 1996 and from 1998 to 2001. More consistent figures, the Kesel created as the author of "Super" series were the mercenaries Stinger, the brutal aliens Massacre, the insane scavenger, the deep sea monster King Shark and the knockout beauty up joyful and good-natured Colossus Scorn.

From 2000 to 2002 wrote Kesel visualized inter alia by Terry Dodson Harley Quinn series.

For Marvel Comics Kesel worked on the series Daredevil and Fantastic Four.
