Karl Michael Ziehrer

Carl Michael Ziehrer ( born 2 May 1843 in Vienna, † November 14, 1922 ) was an Austrian composer. He wrote some 600 dances and 23 operettas.

Life

Carl Michael Ziehrer learned from his father the trade of a hatter. He also played piano and wrote a 19-year own small compositions. The publisher of Johann Strauss ( son ), Carl Haslinger, which began to fall out at this time with his waltz composers, suspected in his talent and patronized the young Carl Michael Ziehrer by asking him teacher of conductors and composers activities available. Ziehrers most important teacher was the Viennese musician and composer Johann Emanuel Hasel, who rehearsed with Ziehrers chapel, the program of the first concert and his students presented numerous original compositions available that on his debut on 21 November 1863 Dianabadsaal in Vienna's Leopoldstadt under Ziehrer brought his name to the performance. Hasels assistance was concealed consistently Ziehrer of his life. In 1903 it succeeded Ziehrer using a private investigator to get a score from the possession of incriminating Hasels widow in to prevent the embarrassing aware of Hasels true proportion of Ziehrers early work.

1865 Ziehrer was engaged in the flower halls of the Vienna Horticultural Society, where he acted as regent ball and some new compositions brought to the premiere. In November 1867 he was named Ziehrer Kapellmeister of the Workers' Education Institute.

After differences with his sponsors and patrons in Vienna drew Ziehrer to Berlin, took over the chapel of the imperial halls and acted as a vaudeville conductor. He worked with Marianne Edelmann from Linz, whom he married on September 1, 1888.

In 1884 Ziehrer received the post of conductor of the famous Kuk Infantry Regiment high and German Champion No. 4 after the Heinrich Strobl had died unexpectedly appointed in the same year. He also gained recognition in Vienna, where the Strauss era coming to an end. Carl Michael Ziehrer gave concerts throughout Europe and also in Chicago in 1893 for the Universal Exhibition.

The highlight of his career can be Ziehrers appointment as the fourth and final kk Hofballmusikdirektor ( after Johann Strauss ( father ), Johann Strauss ( son ) and Eduard Strauss ) in 1907, respectively. Carl Michael Ziehrer lost during the First World War, his fortune and died in poverty in 1922. His body was brought from the house of mourning, Erdbergstraße 1, Vienna - Erdberg, for the consecration in the Roch Church on 17 November 1922, then in the Viennese central cemetery in a grave of honor ( group 32 C, point 1) laid to rest.

Honors

In 1933 in Vienna Landstrasse (3rd district) was named the Ziehrerplatz after him.

The Willi Forst movie " Wiener Mädeln " from 1944 is dedicated to his memory.

To Ziehrers honor brought the Austrian post 1947 and 1972 out on the 25th or 50th death anniversary special post marks.

1972 laid the coin Austria, also commemorative year terms, a 25 -shilling coin on.
