Karl Postl (painter)

Karel Postl (* 1769 probably in Bechyně, † March 15, 1818 in Prague, also Postel wrote ) was a Bohemian vistas and landscape painter, draftsman and graphic artist as well as classicism.

Life

The son of a count's officials probably studied at the Vienna Academy. In 1806 he competed at the club patriotic friends to the place of the professor - "academic teachers the landscape drawing " - at the newly established School of landscape painting, the Prague Academy, where he taught after his appointment until his death. Interrupted his teaching was only after the state bankruptcy of 1811, when the school was closed and had to live Postl of commissioned works. In 1806 he was also appointed as a theater painter of the Estates Theatre. He died of pulmonary tuberculosis and with it the school, which was only re-opened on 1 January in 1836 by Antonín Manes.

Works

In his work, is a close affective link to the city of Prague, which he dedicated several works highly visible. An influence on his work had the Viennese School, where he met the Central European influence of classical art. He managed to implement the graphical elements of old Dutchman in his works. Together with the artist and graphic designer Antonín Puchera he created postcards of the spa towns of Karlovy Vary and Teplice.
