Karl Schröder II

Carl Schroeder ( Carl Adolf Friedrich Heinrich Schroeder ) ( born December 18, 1848 in Quedlinburg, † September 22, 1935 in Bremen ) was a German cellist, composer and conductor and Kapellmeister.

Life

He received the first musical instruction from his father, the same composer Carl Schroeder ( 1816-1890 ). His mother was Charlotte Schroeder, nee Vollmer. The family lived in Quedlinburg at the address Augustinians 798 He then took lessons in cello with Karl Drechsler and has performed at the age of 15 years as a solo cellist in a courtyard concert in Oberhausen on special. A year later, he got a job as the second cellist in the court orchestra princely. From 1866 he was principal cellist for several years in St. Petersburg, Warsaw and Paris. In St. Petersburg was Anton Rubinstein, his friend and companion. From 1868 to 1871 he traveled in a string quartet with his brothers Hermann and Alwin and his father by Germany, the quartet continued until 1873. 1872 he was conductor at the Kroll 's theater in Berlin. After that, he became the first cellist at the Court Theatre in Braunschweig. In 1874, he accepted the same position at the Gewandhaus Orchestra of Leipzig, Leipzig, he was also a teacher at the Royal Conservatory. During this time, Schroeder was recorded in 1877 in the Leipzig Masonic Lodge Minerva of the three palm trees.

In 1881 he began his career as a conductor, first as Kapellmeister at the court chapel royal Sondershausen, later Loh -Orchester. In special Hausen Schroeder founded in 1882 its own conservatory and was appointed in 1885 by the Prince to the professor. He then worked as a conductor at the Deutsche Oper in Rotterdam.

His reputation had become so important that he was hired in 1887 by the Royal Court Opera, Berlin. In 1888 he went as a conductor at the Hamburg Stadttheater, 1890 after Sondershausen as Kapellmeister and Director of the Princely Conservatory Sondershausen.

After 1911, he acted as the head of the orchestra class at the Stern Conservatory in Berlin. He has received numerous awards and was named an honorary citizen of Sondershausen.
