Karl von der Heyden

Karl M. von der Heyden (* 1936 in Berlin) was from 1996 to 2001 Vice Chairman of PepsiCo, for which he had worked from 1974 to 1979. Previously, he worked for RJR Nabisco.

After training at the Berliner Bank, he studied at the Free University of Berlin and at Duke University, where in 1962 he made his first degree. He then completed the MBA program at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania in 1964. He began his career in 1963 with Coopers & Lybrand in Philadelphia, moved in 1966 to Pitney Bowes and 1980 HJ Heinz Company. In December 1993, he took over the chairmanship of the troubled Metallgesellschaft.

Together with Henry Kissinger, he is the Executive Board of the American Academy in Berlin.

He has two children and five grandchildren. With his wife, he lives in New York City.
