The State College of Design in Karlsruhe ( HfG ) is a public art school founded in 1992 in Karlsruhe. The company focuses on media art, design, scenography and art history with emphasis on interdisciplinarity between departments. History

The College of Design in Karlsruhe was opened on 15 April 1992 as a reform school. It was founded jointly with the Center for Art and Media Technology ( ZKM) in Karlsruhe during the years 1989 to 1992 by Heinrich Klotz.

As the first German art school, the focus was on media art forms, classical forms such as painting were represented only with a chair until 2004. HfG Research Institute
