The State College of Design in Karlsruhe ( HfG ) is a public art school founded in 1992 in Karlsruhe. The company focuses on media art, design, scenography and art history with emphasis on interdisciplinarity between departments. The college has about 400 students, rector since 2001, Peter Sloterdijk.

History

The College of Design in Karlsruhe was opened on 15 April 1992 as a reform school. It was founded jointly with the Center for Art and Media Technology ( ZKM) in Karlsruhe during the years 1989 to 1992 by Heinrich Klotz.

As the first German art school, the focus was on media art forms, classical forms such as painting were represented only with a chair until 2004. The school model is also new, the merging of media art, art theory and product and graphic design to enable interdisciplinary work. HfG Research Institute

At founded in 2006 HfG Research Institute " Expanded 3 Digital Cinema Laboratory " research is being conducted on the future of 3D television and cinema, among others, in the 3D lab. In addition, based on the 2010 Gamelab research is being conducted on the expansion of the game concept.
