Karol Mikuli

Karol ( Carol, Charles, Carl, Karl) Knights of Mikuli ( Miculi ) or Karol Pstikyan / arms Կարոլ Միկուլի or Կարոլ Պստիկյան /. ( Born October 20, 1821 in Czernowitz, Bukovina, † May 21, 1897 in Lemberg, Galicia ) was a composer, pianist and music teacher.

Life

Karol Mikuli first studied medicine in Vienna, but in 1844 went to Paris and became a pupil of Chopin in piano playing - later he was his assistant - and Rebers in the composition. The revolution of 1848 drove him to his home. After he made ​​known as a pianist by concerts in various Austrian, Russian and Romanian cities, he was elected in 1858 as artistic director of the Galician Musikverein in Lviv ( Conservatory, Concerts etc.). In 1888 he resigned from the leadership of the Musikverein and only ran a private school. He published the first complete edition of the works of Chopin, whose unsurpassed performer he was to the end of his life. Mikulis edition of Chopin's works ( Kistner ) contains many corrections and variants after Chopin's handwritten marginal notes in Mikulis school copy.
