Karol Stanisław "Panie Kochanku" Radziwiłł

Prince Karol Radziwill Stanisław ( Lithuanian Karolis Stanislovas Radvilos; born February 27, 1734 Nyasvizh, † November 21, 1790 in Biała Podlaska ) was a Polish- Lithuanian noble, voivode of Vilnius and Starosta of Lviv. He is considered by many as " Panie Kochanku " ( German: " My dear Lord " ) called to distinguish him from his former namesake.

Life

Radziwill has held many positions in Poland - Lithuania. From 1752 on, he was sword-bearer of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania (Polish: Miecznik Litewski ). On August 3, 1757 he was one of the first people ever awarded the Order of the White Eagle. The Vilnius Voivodeship he reigned as voivode from 1762nd

In 1767 he became General Marshal of the Confederacy of Radom and Marshal of the Confederacy of Bar the following year. After their defeat, he emigrated in 1772, but returned in 1777 to Poland for all items, which he held even before his emigration to adopt again after he swore King Stanisław August Poniatowski his loyalty.

During the "Four Years' Sejm " ( 1788-1792 ) he was a leading opponent against reforms, King Stanisław August and the so-called Familia. Radziwill was probably the richest magnate in Poland in the second half of the 18th century and one of the richest men in Europe. His possessions included 16 cities, 683 towns and 25 provinces. About him to spread many legends and even appeared in novels and poems. In some he was depicted as drunkards and depraved man, other than flamboyant personality, outstanding representative of Sarmatism and great patriot.
