Károly Sós

Karoly Soos ( born April 5, 1909 in Budapest, † August 5, 1991 ) was a Hungarian football player and coach.

Career as a player

Soos began his career in 1930 at Vasas Nemzeti, where he played until 1932. In 1932 he moved to Attila Miskolc before it a year later he moved to France. There he was active from 1933 to 1935 for the U.S. Saint -Servan -Saint- Malo and 1935-1937 Olympique Alès in Division 1. In 1937 he played with FC Bern and 1938 in Banská Bystrica in Slovakia. Then he returned to Hungary, where he played until 1939 at Budafok and 1939-1944 at Gamma FC Budapest, where he ended his active career.

Career as a coach

At his last stop as a player Soos also began his coaching career. From 1947 to 1950 and 1953 he coached then Haladas Szombathely, 1951-1952 Dorog Budapest, 1953-1957 Ferencvaros Budapest and from 1957 to 1961 Honved Budapest.

On May 14, 1961 Soos was the first time coach of the national football team of the GDR in the World Cup qualifier in Leipzig against the Netherlands (1-1). He assumed the office of Heinz Krügel. Directed by Soos the team played according to many experts the most attractive football. Overall Soos sat in 43 internationals on the bench, where the team reach 19 wins and 10 draws. In 1964 he won the bronze medal with the team at the Olympic Games in Tokyo in 1964.

The qualifying for a World Cup or European Championship but the GDR also failed under Sóos. After the failed qualification for Euro 1968, the Hungarians did not renew his contract and was replaced by Harald Seeger. The last game under Soos denied the GDR team on December 6, 1967 at the Olympic qualifier against Romania in Bucharest ( 1-0).

From 1968 to 1969 Soos was coach of the Hungarian national football team before he ended his coaching career. After that, he held various positions in the Hungarian football. He also served as President of the Hungarian Cup competition and a member of the Council trainer.
