Karunki

Karunki [ kɑruŋki ] ( swedish Karungi ) is a village in the city of Tornio in northern Finland. By 1973 Karunki formed its own community, which included the northern part of present-day urban area of ​​Tornio.

Geography

Karunki is located in the rural northern part Tornios to the bank of river Tornio ( Torne älv ). At the point of Karunki the Tornionjoki is extended seeartig. History

While the membership of today's Finland to Sweden, the two towns were on both sides of Tornionjoki a single village. Originally belonged to the parish place to Alatornio, from which it was released in 1745 as a chapel community.
