Kaspar, Count Palatine of Zweibrücken

Kaspar von Pfalz- Zweibrücken ( * July 11, 1458, † in the summer of 1527 in Nohfelden ) was Count Palatine and Duke of Palatinate -Zweibrücken from 1489 to 1490 / 1514.

Kaspar was a son of Duke Ludwig I, the black, and Johanna von Croy. In 1478 he married Amalie of Brandenburg ( 1461-1481 ). The marriage with the deceased prior to the twentieth birthday Amalia remained childless. Kaspar is buried in the village church of Wolfersweiler.

To the division of his dominions between his entitled to inherit sons Kaspar and Alexander the lame in the duchies of Palatinate -Zweibrücken, which would have received Kaspar, and prevent Pfalz- Veldenz, that would be Alexander fallen, Ludwig possessed the black that both the management of the entire Duchy should take together. However, just one year after Ludwig's death was Alexander arrest his older brother and imprisoned at Castle Nohfelden. Kaspar was declared insane. Henceforth, Alexander reigned alone, although only 1514 Kaspar was formally stripped of his dukedom. Until his death in the summer of 1527 Kaspar could not leave the dungeon.

Whether Kaspar was actually due to mental or moral deficiencies to perform their duties not able or the younger brother only for the purpose of enforcing its own claims to power granted him out of the way, can not be positively traced. And Louis' decision, the brothers to entrust the management of government business together can be interpreted in different ways.
