Cassandra (Greek Κασσάνδρα, pronounced Kassandra, ( f sg ); official name Dimos Cassandras Δήμος Κασσάνδρας ) is a Greek community ( Dimos Δήμος ) in the Regional District of Central Macedonia Chalkidiki region. It was created as part of the Greek local government reform Schedio Kapodistrias 1997 by the former individual communities Kassandreia, Kallithea, Afytos, Kalandra, Kassandrino, Kryopigi, Nea Fokea and Fourka, as municipal districts further acted after the merger to the municipality Kassandra. On 1 January 2011 the southern neighboring municipality of Pallini was incorporated.
The municipality of Kassandra takes their area a peninsula of the same name ( first finger and 1 foot of Halkidiki ). The immediately south of the Isthmus of Kassandra located area of the village Nea Potidea belongs to the municipality as a town Moudania Nea Propondida, which is also the northern neighboring community. The western boundary of the municipality is formed from the west coast of the Kassandra Peninsula ( Thermaic Gulf) and the east coast of the Kassandra ( Toronäischer golf) Peninsula forms the eastern boundary of the municipality. The municipality does not include islands. The highest point of the municipality is the mountain Livadakia (height 353 m) south of the village Kassandrino. The lowest point of the municipality are the coasts of Kassandra and Thermaikos Gulf ( sea level).
The two communities until 2010 currently form municipal districts ( Ez gr Dimotiki Enotita ). The municipal districts are divided further into towns ( Ez gr Dimotiki Kinotita or Topiki Kinotita ), which correspond to the areas of the former municipalities until 1997, and elect their own local representatives. The population figures are derived from the results of the census of 2011.
