Katal

The Katal ( kat ) is a special name for the SI unit of catalytic activity and thus the enzyme activity, ie for. The Katal replaces the previously used enzyme unit (U). In Germany, the 2009 Katal is legal unit of measurement since October 3.

History

The name Katal 1972 proposed by the Commission of the IUB enzyme (International Union of Biochemistry ) as SI unit of enzyme activity. It was included in the catalog of the SI derived units in 1999.
