Catherine Bullinger played for the SC Dynamo Berlin and was between 1975 and 1979 three times GDR champion. They also won the 1978 European Cup Winners' Cup.

The former flagship and elite athlete of the GDR is one of the victims of the doping program in the GDR - performance sports. Without her knowledge, the then young people have been fed so-called performance-enhancing drugs in different series of experiments. The administration was carried out partly in the form of a special diet or as tablets and injections. These were they given her by the supervising team doctors without further explanations.

At the time necessary operations were not carried out in order not to jeopardize the participation of the top athlete in the Olympic Games in Moscow. At age 13, she was accepted into the sports system of the GDR. Two years later she was the women's team in the GDR and member of the Junior. After the 1980 Olympic Games, she was dropped by the GDR sports officials in 1981 because it was no longer fit enough for competitive sports. Without a Abtraining or sports medicine, she was released from the squad and then fell into an emotional crisis. After alcoholism and addiction tablets she began again under its own power, and built their lives on.

Today she is suffering from the consequences of that treatment by doping. Despite the now conducted twelve surgeries she has chronic pain, her body is masculinized and they have to train constantly continue to maintain a minimum mobility. Bullinger studied in the now open files of the GDR for evidence of the former operations. She is still fighting for compensation and a pension for their inflicted disability.
