Kathleen Cavendish, Marchioness of Hartington

Kathleen Cavendish, Marchioness of Hartington (born Kathleen Agnes Kennedy) (* February 20, 1920, † May 13 1948 in Sainte -Bauzille, Ardèche, France) was the fourth oldest child of Joseph P. Kennedy and Rose Kennedy, sister of U.S. President John F. Kennedy.

Kathleen, called Kick, married against the wishes of her Catholic mother on May 6, 1944 in London, William Cavendish, Marquess of Hartington, a Protestant, the eldest son of Edward Cavendish, 10th Duke of Devonshire. Four months later he was killed by a German sniper in World War II.

Socially engaged and this very respected in British society, the young widow was the fiancée of Peter Wentworth - Fitzwilliam, 8th Earl Fitzwilliam. They planned to marry after divorce Peters. The couple, who wanted to travel to Kathleen's father to ask for his blessing, crashed in France in Saint- Bauzile, Ardèche, from an airplane.

Kathleen (her brother Joseph also died in an airplane, just like three other family members) was in the cemetery of Saint Peter 's Church, Edensor Village, Chatsworth, United Kingdom buried next to the graves of the Cavendish family.
