Kathrin Zettel

Kathrin Zettel (* August 5, 1986 in Scheibbs ) is an Austrian alpine skier. It was 2009 world champion in the super combined and is currently one of the best athletes in the technical disciplines giant slalom and slalom. Home is in Gostling an der Ybbs in Lower Austria.

Biography

Your first big success came in February 2004 list, as it World Champion in slalom and Vice World Champion in the Alpine combination was at the Junior World Championships in Maribor. A month later, she denied her first race in the World Cup. The following year she was at the Junior World Cup in Bardonecchia World Champion in the combination and Vice World Champion in slalom.

Your good shape they could preserve and drove at the 2005 World Championships in Santa Caterina in the combination in sixth place in the slalom and on the fourth. On the last day she won along with their teammates Nicole Hosp, Renate Götschl, Benjamin Raich, Rainer Schoenfelder and Michael Walchshofer the silver medal in the newly created team competition.

In the season 2005/ 06 List impressed particularly by resistance, because they could be placed in the top ten 16 times. Thus they finished seventh in the World Cup, was in the slalom and giant slalom World Cup Fourth - and Sixth Combined World Cup. At the Olympic Winter Games in Sestriere she missed as fourth in the giant slalom again barely a medal.

On November 25 2006 she won her first World Cup race, the giant slalom in Aspen. A month later, her am Semmering her second giant slalom victory. At the World Championships in Åre she reached both in slalom and super combined in fifth place in the giant slalom, she was ninth. In March 2007, she fell heavily in the Super Combination Downhill in Tarvisio and thereby suffered a shin head and broken nose. In October 2007, she celebrated with a third place in the World Cup opener in Soelden a successful comeback. In the slalom in Aspen in December 2007 and at the season finale in 2008 in Bormio in the giant slalom she drove each as third parties also on the podium.

On February 6, 2009 Kathrin Zettel won at the World Championships in Val d'Isere, the gold medal in the super combined. In the giant slalom, she took after fastest time in the first run sixth. In the final slalom she dropped out already after a few gates. In the World Cup they won in the 2008/ 09 season, the giant slalom in Soelden, in Semmering, in Cortina d' Ampezzo and in Ofterschwang, but had in the giant slalom World Cup Tanja Poutiainen beaten by seven points and came in second.

On 17 January 2010 List of Maribor won her first World Cup slalom, a day earlier, she had already decided the giant slalom for themselves. Contrary to expectations, they failed to win a medal at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games. She was fourth in the super-combined, fifth in the giant slalom and 13th in slalom. On February 6, 2011, she was third in the giant slalom in Zwiesel and thus was the first time in the 2010/11 season on the podium. Another podium succeeded in mid-March with second place in the slalom in Spindleruv Mlyn. At the World Championships 2011 in Garmisch -Partenkirchen she won the silver medal in slalom; to a start in the super-combined title holder had previously waived. In the giant slalom, she was twelfth.

In the World Cup season 2011/12, two third places were as high scores to book. Somewhat more successful was list in the 2012/13 season. She won a World Cup race, was four times second and twice third parties. At the World Championships 2013 in Schladming she missed twice just a medal ( fourth in the giant slalom and fifth in the super combined ).

On 21 February 2014, it won the bronze medal in the slalom at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi.
