Kathy Sinnott

Kathy Sinnott ( born September 29, 1950 in Chicago, Illinois) is an Irish politician and was from 2004 to 2009 party -attached Member of the European Parliament.

Sinnott was educated at St. Mary of the Woods College in Indiana, and then at University College Dublin in Ireland.

In May 2002, she ran unsuccessfully as a non-party in elections to the 29th Dáil Éireann. For this she was elected in June 2004 in the European Parliament. As a member of the European Parliament it belongs to the Independence and Democracy Group and is active within that as a board member. From May 2008 to October of the same year, she was Co-President for a short time, but was then replaced by Hanne Dahl. In the European elections in 2009 she could not defend her seat and resigned from the European Parliament.

2005 she was awarded the St. Mary of the Woods College honorary doctorate. Sinnott is the mother of nine children, three daughters and six sons. In September 2009, drowned one of her sons in Georgia while swimming. He was a student at Southern Catholic College in Dawsonville.
