Katie Smith

Katherine May Smith ( born June 4, 1974 in Lancaster, Ohio, United States) is a professional basketball player. In 2012 she plays for the Seattle Storm in the Women's National Basketball Association. The 1.80 meter tall Smith is mainly used in the position of shooting guard.

Career

College (1992 to 1996)

Katie Smith played from 1992 to 1996 for the women's basketball team at Ohio State University. On January 21, 2001, in honor of their achievements for the University locked their jersey number and is no longer awarded to a player.

ABL (1996 to 1998)

Smith played after their time at the college for the Columbus Quest in the ABL. During this time she won two times the ABL championship with the quest. Since the ABL was dissolved after only two seasons, she had involuntarily terminate her career in the ABL.

WNBA (since 1999)

Katie Smith played from 1999 to 2005 for the Minnesota Lynx. During this time she reached the Lynx twice the play-offs. On July 30, 2005, Smith was transferred together with a second-round pick in the WNBA Draft 2006 on the Detroit Shock for a first-round pick in the WNBA Draft 2006. In the 2006 season, she won the WNBA Championship with the Shock for the first time. This makes it the first and only player who could one ABL and WNBA championship win. After they failed in the 2007 season with the Shock scarce in the Finals to the Sacramento Monarchs, they could win in the 2008 season with the Shock not only the second time the WNBA Championship, but she was also appointed as the WNBA Finals MVP Award. On March 16, 2010 Smith was engaged by the Washington Mystics. A year later, on April 29, 2011, she was transferred to the Seattle Storm. Thus it plays in the 2011 season for the Storm.

International ( since 2000)

Smith won with the U.S. national basketball team at the 2000 Olympics in Sydney, and at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens and at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, the gold medal.
