Katja Aßmann

Katja Assmann ( born May 28, 1971 in Warstein ) is a German arts administrator and curator. She studied architecture at the University of Bochum and art history at the Ruhr- University Bochum. Since 2012, she is the Artistic Director of Urban Arts Ruhr.

Professional career

Katja Assmann in 1999 became Head of Art and Culture of the International Building Exhibition Emscher Park. Before that, she was still working while studying as a freelancer for the publicity and the Department of Art, Culture, Architecture of the IBA Emscher Park.

After several years working as a freelance curator and cultural manager Assmann, in 2004 the project management in the field of art, culture and events of Local 2006. Subsequently she managed projects of the state initiative StadtBauKultur NRW within which it, inter alia, the event series " Building Culture Salon" established.

In 2007, she was the European Capital of Culture RUHR.2010 for project and program manager appointed, where they focus on developing the projects in the field of architecture, urban design and visual arts and realized.

In early 2012 Katja Assmann Artistic Director of Urban Arts Ruhr, a new program column Kultur Ruhr GmbH, which was established as part of the sustainability of the Capital of Culture Ruhr 2010 to life. Assmann developed the artistic conception of Urban Arts Ruhr and curated own and co-productions with regional and international artists and collectives.
