Katrin Ottarsdóttir

Katrin Ottarsdóttir ( May 22nd, 1957 in Tórshavn, Faroe Islands ) is a Faroese filmmaker and poet.

Katrin Ottarsdóttir went to Denmark in 1976, and in 1982 was the first Faroese graduate of the Film School in Copenhagen. In 1989 she received for Atlantic Rhapsody - 52 pictures from Tórshavn on the Nordic Film Days in Lübeck Nordic Film Prize of the Institute. This is the first Faroese feature film history.

Katrin Ottarsdóttir writes her screenplays themselves and they also directs. Atlantic Rhapsody has it furthermore also produced. Most of the actors in Katrin Ottarsdóttirs films are Faroese, and scene of their movies are also the Faroe Islands.

The road movie Bye Bye Bluebird awarded the 1999 Grand Prize of the Nordic Film Days 2000 and the Tiger Award at the Rotterdam International Film Festival. Her daughter Hildigunn Eyðfinsdóttir ( b. 1975 ) plays the main role there.

2008 their trilogy appeared on three Faroese cultural workers: the sculptor Hans Pauli Olsen, the writer and the writer Tóroddur Poulsen Jóannes Nielsen.
