Katsuhiko Umehara

Katsuhiko Umehara (Japanese梅 原 克 彦, Katsuhiko Umehara; born March 29, 1954 in Sendai ) is a Japanese politician and served from 2005 to 2009 Mayor of Sendai.

Umehara studied at the University of Tokyo and graduated from the Law School in 1978. Afterwards he was in the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, as well as in the private sector operates. For professional reasons, he spent several years in Thailand and the United States, which is why Umehara speaks fluent English.

He was elected mayor of his hometown of Sendai, 2005. In 2009, he decided not to run for a second term.

As a hobby, he runs in addition to swimming and his interest in archaeological ruins Judo and is the recipient of the Black Belt.
