Katsura Funakoshi

Katsura Funakoshi (Japanese舟 越 桂Katsura Funakoshi, Morioka * 1951 ) is a contemporary Japanese sculptor and graphic artist.

Biography

Katsura Funakoshi in 1951, Morioka (Japan) born as the son of the sculptor Yasutake Funakoshi and learned of this sculpture. From 1971 to 1975 he studied at the University of Art and Design, then from 1975 to 1977 at the National University of Fine Arts and Music in Tokyo. After living in Europe, he lives and works in Tokyo.

Work

In his pictorial work Funakoshi deals with the representation of people. His half-length figures are applied between abstraction and realistic detail. They have highly polished eyes made ​​of marble, while about the clavicle is only indicated by a sharp edge and clearly show other points of the same sculpture trail of Schnitzeisens. A striking feature of Funakoshi's sculptures are the distortions, especially by anatomically incorrect scheduled limbs.
