Kawasaki ZXR400

The Kawasaki ZXR400 is a super sport motorcycle from the Japanese manufacturer Kawasaki with 398 cm3. She is the little sister of the ZXR750. The 400 was built from 1989 to 1999, but only sold from 1991 in Germany, and about 6,500 times. By 1997, the original price increased continuously from around 12,000 to up to 15,500 marks. As used motorcycle it is still very popular, and in comparison with the used "younger" 600s quite expensive. The bike is very easy to identify on the basis of " Ram -air (vacuum cleaner ) hoses " and the rear spoiler. The ZXR400 weighs road ready, fully fueled 40 kg less than the ZXR 750 ( 185 to 225 kilograms). The short stroke of 39 mm at 57 mm bore is also rather rare.

The different model years differ primarily in their painting and the various decorations. In other countries, there were also other colors and decorative combinations.

1989 ZX400 -H1

The H1 was the first in her series. You were probably initially in a green / white / blue decor. She had a rectangular headlights.

1991 ZX400 -L1

A further development of the H- model. New frame, the engine was more powerful, and the tail has experienced a significant Umdesign. Otherwise, many small changes in detail. In Germany with rear spoiler ( for holding or for pillion pillion rider). The L1, there were green / white / blue with silver frame or in metallic blue with black frame.

1992 ZX400 -L2

The rectangular headlights were replaced by a trapezoidal headlamps, also Kawasaki changed the damping of the shock absorber, but not the spring rate. The L2 there was additionally in metallic red with black frame and otherwise had the same decor as the L1.

1993 ZX400 -L3

The L3 were only available in green / white / blue ( different division than previously ) with silver frame or in black / purple with black frame. This was the last time that there was a standard black frame.

1994 ZX400 -L4

The carburettor heater was introduced, the rear splash guard was shorter and he received two large holes. The L4 there was now in another green / white / blue with blue curved zigzag pattern and again. In another black / purple version, but now only with silver frame

1995 ZX400 -L5

From the L5 there was the same decorative pattern in two color variations, green / white with purple / pink tail, and black / purple with an orange tail.

1997 ZX400 - L7

Now the bonsai athletes received a secondary air system to meet the stricter emission laws. The maneuverability and the fire between 11,000 and 14.000/min have suffered something.

Details

• Upside -down fork
• Rocker arms: valves are not directly activated by bucket tappets, but by rocker arms.
• Ram Air: No functional Ram Air system, more of a selling point by striking " vacuum cleaner hoses ." As with the Zxr 750 ( to 1992) only ventilation of the motor top. The hoses are not connected to the airbox and can therefore build no back pressure.
