Kawcze, Pomeranian Voivodeship

Kawcze ( German Kaffzig, Kashubian Kôwczé ) is a village near the western border of the Polish Pomeranian Voivodeship and is part of the urban and rural community Miastko ( Rummelsburg ) in Bytowski powiat ( county Buetow ).

Geographical location

Kawcze lies on the west bank of the Studnica ( Stüdnitz ), which opens about ten miles to the north in the Wieprza ( Wipper ). Through the village runs the province road 206 Koszalin ( Koszalin ) and Polanów ( Pollnow ) with Miastko ( Rummelsburg ) connects. In the village branches off a side road about Świerzno ( United Schwirsen ) and Nowy Żelibórz ( Sell Berg) to Żydowo ( Sydow ) in the province road 205.

Since 1878, Kawcze station on the railway line Pila - Ustka is ( Schneidemühl - Stolpmünde ).

History

For the first time the village Kaffzig is mentioned in the year 1517. In 1590, two farmers and two Kossäten be mentioned here, in 1655, there are only two farmers.

In regulating the gutsherrlich - peasant relations Kaffzig had a farm, three cottages, three farmers and a Kossäten.

At the beginning of the 16th century was one of the estates of Lettow family - in two parts. Some of them went to the Massows 1517 - first as a pledge possession, then as a property. In the 17th century Kaffzig was entirely owned by the Massows, originally as an accessory to the United Schwirsen (now Polish: Świerzno ), later as a self- possession.

In the period following the ownership changed frequently. Last owner before 1945 was Martin Grajetki.

In 1812 Kaffzig counted 41 inhabitants. Their number increased by 1843 to 93, 1871 to 173 in 1905 and was already 266 In 1939 it amounted to 486

By 1945 Kaffzig was a village in the administrative district Rummelsburg in the district of the Prussian province of Pomerania Pomerania. Since 1945, the village is Polish under the name Kawcze and now part of the Gmina Miastko in powiat Bytowski in the Pomeranian Voivodeship. Between 1945 and 1954 there was an independent Gmina Kwacze in Miastecki powiat ( county Rummelsburg ). From 1945 to 1954, the place successively belonged to the provinces of Danzig, to Szczecin and Koszalin Voivodeship for 1975-1998 Slupsk. It now live here 258 inhabitants.

Church

Before 1945, the population of Kaffzig predominantly Protestant denomination was. Since 1576 the village was in the parish of Great Schwirsen (now Polish: Świerzno ) the parish, for the parish of Rummelsburg ( Miastko ) belonged to the Church of the Old Prussian Union in Ostsprengel the ecclesiastical province of Pomerania.

Since 1945 Kawcze is an almost exclusively Catholic place. School

In 1769, the children of Kaffzig in Great Schwirsen still went to school. Also in 1813 there was no separate school.

In 1937 here was teaching a teacher 64 school children.
