Kāwhia Harbour

The Kawhia Harbour is one of three large inlets of the Tasman Sea in the Waikato region of the North Island of New Zealand. Located just south of Raglan Harbour, Aotea Harbour and Ruapuke, 40 km southwest of Hamilton.

The settlement Kawhia located on the north coast of the sea arm and was in the early colonial history of New Zealand as a port of importance.

The area was birth place of the famous Māori Te Rauparaha Warchief and is in the legends of the Māori as the last resting place of the waka ( canoe) Tainui known.
