Kazimierz Karabasz

Kazimierz Karabasz ( born June 5, 1930 in Bydgoszcz ) is a Polish documentary filmmaker; He is considered a classic of the Polish post-war documentary film ( " Czarna Seria "). He is a member of the Academy of Arts in Berlin and was a teacher of the young Krzysztof Kieslowski, with whom he worked his training after the end, and whose work has influenced decisively.

The " Karabasz school" - an informal aesthetic doctrine, which reached its peak in the 60s - emphasizes asceticism of realization: The documentarian is to avoid any production, reduce their own intervention in the reality to a minimum and as major contributors ordinary as possible, select hardly striking people. Only a sensitive view of the documentary - and the construction of the film - to make them unusual, familiar learning worthy purchase.
