Kazumura Cave

The Kazumura Cave in Hawaii is 65.5 kilometers, the longest and deepest lava tube with 1.101 meters, the world. It also holds several U.S. cave records.

The cave is located on the eastern slope of the Kīlauea, the currently most active volcano on the Big Island of Hawaii. The cave was formed about 300 to 500 years. Only in the 1990s it was recognized that several already known caves are to be regarded as parts of large interconnected cave system of Kazumura Cave. Kazumura is only slightly developed for tourism, but guided tours and caving will be offered by appointment.
