Kazys Bradūnas

Kazys Bradūnas ( born February 11, 1917 in Kiršai, rayon Vilkaviškis; † February 9, 2009 in Vilnius ) was a Lithuanian poet.

Bradūnas came from the same village as the poet Salomeja Neris ( 1904-1945 ). He attended high school in Vilkaviškis; After leaving school he studied since 1937 the Lithuanian language and literature at the Vytauto Didžiojo universitetas in Kaunas and later in Vilnius. Before the end of World War II he emigrated to the West. At first he lived in Munich, where he was on the editorial board of " Aidai ", and since 1949 in the United States, Baltimore and Chicago. Bradūnas was editor of " Lietuvių Literatūra svetur " and the newspaper " Draugas " and " Literatūros Lankai " and the editor of the anthology " zeme ".

In 1992 he was awarded the National Culture and Arts Award in Lithuania. Since 1994 he was a member of the Lithuanian Writers' Union ( Lietuvos rašytojų sąjunga ). In 2002 he reached the first place in the competition " Poezijos Pavasaris ".
