KCLU (branding: " NPR & Local News" ) is an American radio station in Santa Barbara in the U.S. state of California. It is operated by the California Lutheran University. KCLU be received on the medium wave frequency 1340 kHz.

History

Before KCLU of 20 October 1994 for the first time went on the air, the audiences had a relative small range of local and national news programs in the region around Ventura and Santa Barbara. In particular, there was no coverage of important local events. Due to the foresight and vision of the California Lutheran University and the support of the project by its Board KCLU was rapidly absorbed and appreciated by the local community.

In 12 years, the number of listeners grew from a few thousand listeners per week, to almost 80,000. In the early years, KCLU reported from at midnight to send pause. Today includes the transmission format 24 hours, seven days a week. KCLU listeners have facilitated the dynamic growth of the radio station over time also by their active financial support.

KCLU has been repeatedly recognized for its excellent coverage of professional organizations. Among other things, by the Associated Press, the Los Angeles Press Club, the Radio Television News Directors Association of Northern California and the Radio and Television News Directors Association of Southern California.

In the last five years alone KCLU garnered a 95 journalism awards.
