KDE Display Manager

The KDM ( KDE Display Manager for acronym ) is a graphical session manager for unix like operating systems. He is one of the central components of the graphical user interface KDE Plasma Workspaces, but can also be used for other X-based user interfaces.

KDM allows users to login with their username and password, and start using these data, the desired session. This can be a KDE Plasma session, but also, for example, a Gnome or a command-line session

KDM uses the X Window System, and replaced the default login manager XDM. As XDM provides a KDM XDMCP chooser. Unlike XDM but KDM is based on the Qt library, and therefore integrates seamlessly with its operating philosophy in the advanced KDE user interface.

KDM can be configured via the KDE Control and visually customized via themes. Also, user icons are possible.
