Keef Hartley

Keef Hartley ( born April 8, 1944 in Preston, Lancashire, England; † 27 November 2011) was a British rock musician (drums). He became known among other things as a member of John Mayall's Bluesbreakers and with his own Keef Hartley band. A hallmark Hartley were his performances in Indian clothes, as he was very interested in the Indian culture.

Biography

In 1963, joined Keef Hartley band Rory Storm & the Hurricanes, at the previously Ringo Starr had tumbled. Before that Hartley had their first experience with the Thunder beats. In November 1963, Hartley moved to Freddie Starr & The Midnighters, who played as the Hurricanes in Hamburg's Star Club. In the summer of 1964 Hartley founded with Roger James the band The Ice Cubes, which stayed together until the end of the year. End of 1964 to mid-1967 Hartley played at The Artwoods, together with Jon Lord ( Deep Purple later ). On 1 May 1967, Hartley John Mayall Album involved in The Blues Alone, whereupon Mayall played all the instruments except the drums on some titles. Then Hartley was a permanent member of the Bluesbreakers until 1968.

The end of 1968 was the first album by the Keef Hartley band, Half Breed. With Miller Anderson (guitar, vocals), Gary Thain (bass) and Mick Weaver ( keyboards) was highly occupied the formation. In the intro of this LP Hartley processed the tape recording of the telephone conversation in which he had resigned at the Mayall Bluesbreakers membership. The band performed at the 1969 Woodstock Festival. Later, the group temporarily grew to big band format; in the wake of the emerging fusion movement of one of the focuses was on the use of brass ( The Time is Near). 1972 sparked Keef Hartley on his band to collaborate again with John Mayall. 1973 Hartley played in the Michael Chapman band. In 1975 Hartley in the band Dog Soldier again with Miller Anderson together.

Keef Hartley came in 1977 to Stan Webb's Chicken Shack (or to the composite tumbled by Stan Webb's for an album band " Broken Glass "). Another band in which he played was Mainsqueeze. There was also a revival of the Thunder beats. Short term he replaced sometimes the drummer of Jethro Tull.

After leaving the music business, he started his own business by, guitars waited along with Roger Giffin, who now works for Fender in Los Angeles and repaired. The business expanded soon on how to set up recording studios such as The Manor (Virgin ), Townhouse and Olympic Studios. In addition, they also worked for David Gilmour. Meanwhile, Roger Giffin has no more contact with Keef Hartley. In the early 1990s he drew largely out of business, built now and again but still housing. In 2000, he co-starred Michael Chapman on Dave Gardner's Loser's Paradise. Most recently, he worked on his biography. November 27, 2011 Keef Hartley died after complications from surgery.
