Keke Rosberg

Keijo Erik " Keke " Rosberg [ ru ː kɛkɛ sbærj ] (born 6 December 1948 in Solna, Sweden) is a Finnish businessman and TV commentator and former race car driver. He started 1978-1986 in the highest class of motorsports Formula 1 and became World Champion in 1982. Rosberg's son, Nico ( born 1985 ) is also a racing driver and starts since 2006 in Formula 1

Driving career

Keke Rosberg was the eldest of three children of a veterinarian Lars Erik Rosberg and his wife, Lea Aino Marjatta Rosberg, born Lautala in Sweden to the world. He spent his childhood in Oulu in northern Finland and in Iisalmi. He inspired at an early age for racing, as his parents drove rallies. He had originally intended to be a dentist. In 1965, Rosberg took himself to automobile racing part and managed through various junior formulas Finally, in 1978 a relatively late to jump into Formula 1, where he remained until 1986, before other racing series like the DTM turned to.

Formula 1

In his first season started Rosberg for three different teams. First, he drove a race for the Theodore team, prior to signing on for five runs in the German entrepreneur Günter Schmid and his ATS team. He then moved again, this time to Walter Wolf Racing, where he played the following season in 1979. After two years and 16 Grand Prix was for Rosberg not a single point result to book. After former world champion Alan Jones had announced his retirement at the end of the 1981 season Williams, Keke Rosberg was unceremoniously and so to speak, taken as a " last resort " by Frank Williams to the team. He was there to support the Argentine Carlos Reutemann in the hunt for the title. In subsequent years, Rosberg remained loyal to the Williams team and won more Grands Prix. In 1985 he was again World Cup bronze medalist, prior to signing for 1986 at McLaren - TAG Porsche next world champion Alain Prost. In his last season he managed a second place in Monaco and gave a pole position in the Grand Prix of Germany retired from Formula 1 is known. In his last race, the Australian Grand Prix, he retired after suffering a puncture in management of lying and so helped his teammate Prost to the world title. DTM

The Finn was racing as a promoter and manager faithful until he returned in 1990 as a pilot. From 1992 he competed in the German Touring Car Championship ( DTM ) for the AMG-Mercedes team, and in 1993 he moved within the series to Opel, before he in 1994 founded his own team. His last assignment as an active driver was on October 15, 1995 at the DTM season finale at Hockenheim on an Opel Calibra. In his honor, there were from the Opel Calibra DTM next to the special model also Keke Rosberg Edition.

Manager, team owner and television commentator

As a manager Keke Rosberg placed his Finnish countrymen JJ Lehto and Mika Hakkinen as drivers in Formula 1 until March 2002 Rosberg worked as a manager of Hakkinen, who won the Formula 1 world championship with McLaren -Mercedes twice.

Today, he is also active as the owner of the racing team Team Rosberg in the DTM and Formula 3 Euro Series.
