Kelly Macdonald

Kelly Macdonald ( born February 23, 1976 in Glasgow ) is a British actress.

Life and career

Her parents divorced when Kelly was still a child. Together with her younger brother, she grew up with her mother in Newton Mearns. She graduated from Eastwood High School. At the age of seventeen, she left home and lived with a friend in Glasgow, where she attended college for a short time.

As a waitress Kelly Macdonald was a brochure in their hands, in a casting for the film Trainspotting was announced. The film became her breakthrough. For her role in The Girl in the Café, she received an Emmy and a Golden Globe nomination. Two other Golden Globe nomination followed in 2011 and 2012 for her supporting role as a young Irish widow and mother in the U.S. series Boardwalk Empire.

In August 2003, Kelly Macdonald married the bassist of Scottish rock band Travis, Dougie Payne. She has a son in March of 2008 and lives in London.
