Kemal Kayacan

Kemal Kayacan (* 1915 in Sinop, † July 29, 1992 in Kadıköy, Istanbul) was a Turkish admiral, who was most recently 1972-1974 Commander in Chief of the Navy ( Türk Deniz Kuvvetleri ).

Life

After school he graduated from the Naval Academy ( Deniz Harp Okulu ), which he left in 1935 as midshipman. Subsequently, he served as an officer on various ships and in various naval units, before he entered the Naval Academy in 1941 ( Deniz Harp Akademisi ) and this 1944 graduated. He was subsequently appointed as an officer on board the warships TCG Ayvalik, TCG Çeşme and the frigate TCG Gemlik (F -492 ) and was then commander of the TCG Savarona. After he was 1955-1957 military attaché at the embassy in the U.S., he was followed to 1960 Chief of Staff of the Fleet Command.

After promotion to Rear Admiral in 1960 Kayacan became commander of the minelayer Associations ( Mayin Filosu Komutanlığı ) and was then Chief of the Naval Training Command ( Deniz Eğitim Komutanlığı ). This office he retained even after his promotion to Rear Admiral in 1963 and then became the Commander in Chief of the Naval Command South ( Güney Deniz Saha Komutanlığı ) appointed in Izmir, to the amphibious vehicle associations in Foça, the maintenance and engineering Command Izmir, the Regional Command Mediterranean Sea and the naval bases İskenderun and Aksaz belong. After he was vice-admiral in 1967, he became Chief of Staff of the Supreme Command of the Navy.

After promotion to Admiral, he was following on August 29, 1970 Supreme Commander of the Fleet Command ( donanma Komutanlığı ) at the naval base Gölcük, which includes among others, the minelayer, U - boat, storm boot, mine countermeasures vessel, logistic support and naval aviation associations. In this role he was also a member of the Supreme Military Council.

On August 30, 1972, he was the successor of Admiral Celal Eyiceoğlu Supreme Commander of the Navy, and held that office until his replacement by Admiral Hilmi Fırat on 23 August 1974.

During the elections on June 5, 1977 Kayacan was elected deputies of the Grand National Assembly and represented in this until 1980, a constituency of Istanbul. On July 29, 1992, he died of the consequences of an attack.
