Bengaluru International Airport ( Kannada: ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು ಅಂತಾರಾಷ್ಟ್ರೀಯ ವಿಮಾನ ನಿಲ್ದಾಣ ) ( IATA code BLR, ICAO code VOBL ) is the international airport of the city of Bangalore in India. It is located in Devanahalli and is 40 km from the city center and 30 km from Central Station. It replaced the old HAL Bangalore International Airport. The airport has been in operation since 23 May 2008. The Bengaluru International Airport was awarded as India's second best airport (Source: Skytrax 2012).

Construction
The airport was originally planned for 3.5 million passengers a year and was later rescheduled to cleared 12 million passengers per year. This rescheduling led to a larger terminal and more parking for the aircraft.
It is built to the airport also has a direct metro connection from the main railway station of Bangalore. The NH7 highway, which runs near the airport, was expanded to six lanes mostly between Bangalore and the airport.

Terminal
There is a terminal with four floors for international and domestic flights. The terminal is fully air-conditioned. In the basement, retail and restrooms are housed. The departure and arrival areas are separated by a virtual wall. International and domestic lounges and other shops are on the second floor. Checkin and baggage claim area on the first floor.
Runway
There is an airstrip; it is suitable for all types of aircraft. There are also plans for a second path when the airport must check in 18 million passengers per year.
Duty-free area
In the international departure area is one of the largest duty-free areas of India is located. The domestic departure area is also home to duty- free shops.

Approach
The airport is currently Metropolitan Transport Corporation bus 12 connected by the Bangalore with the city, the metro connection is still under construction. Modern and air-conditioned taxis to and from the airport are also available.
