Kenneth Baugh

Kenneth Lee O'Neil Baugh ( born February 24, 1941 in Montego Bay, Saint James ) is a Jamaican politician of the Jamaica Labour Party ( JLP ). He was Minister of Health from 1980 to 1989 and from September 2007 to January 2012 Foreign Minister of Jamaica.

Life

After education at Springfield Primary School and the Cornwall College, he studied medicine at the University of the West Indies and completed this study with the graduation to Medical Doctor ( MD). He then worked as a surgeon.

His political career began in 1980 when he was elected as a candidate of the Jamaica Labour Party MPs to the House of Representatives. There he represented the constituency until 1987 Nort West St. James. Immediately after the election, Prime Minister Edward Seaga called him on 1 November 1980 on the health minister in his cabinet. He held until the end of Seagas term of office on February 13, 1989 this office. Between 1989 and 1993 he served on the proposal of the opposition leader Seaga to the Senate as a member.

After the victory of the JLP in the elections of 3 September 2007 he was appointed by Prime Minister Bruce Golding to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade. In addition, he is also Deputy Prime Minister ( Deputy Prime Minister ) and represented in this position, Prime Minister Golding during a visit to the United States before the United Nations, but to also promote the establishment of foreign investors in Jamaica. He was minister until January 6, 2012. He could defend his parliamentary seat on 29 December, 2011 at the electoral defeat of the JLP and was appointed by opposition leader Andrew Holness for health policy opposition spokesman on 19 January 2012.
