Kenyan general election, 1992

The presidential election in Kenya in 1992 was held on 29 December 1992, was the first direct election of a president of Kenya. The former President of the country had been determined in each case by the Kenyan National Assembly. The election was carried out simultaneously with the general elections in Kenya in 1992 and was overshadowed by accusations of electoral fraud and targeted ethnic violence in the Rift Valley province. Human Rights Watch accused several prominent Kenyan politicians, including President Daniel arap Moi and Vice Prime Minister George Saitoti to have initiated and organized the violence. Seven candidates competed against each other, the winner of the election was Daniel arap Moi, who ruled at the time Kenya for 14 years.
