Kevin Farrell

Kevin Joseph Farrell LC ( born September 2, 1947 in Dublin) is an Irish religious clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of Dallas as well as large -Chancellor of the University of Dallas.

Life

Kevin Farrell visited the Irish Christian Brothers High School in Drimnagh, Dublin, 1966 and entered the Congregation of the Legionaries of Christ in. He studied philosophy and Catholic theology in Rome and received ibid. on 24 December 1978, the sacrament of Holy Orders. He was then chaplain to the Mexican Universidad de Monterrey, where he also taught in bioethics and social ethics. In the 1980s he supported the Archdiocese of Washington in the care of Spanish speaking priest. In 1984 he was incardinated in the Archdiocese of Washington and worked as a pastor in St. Peter, Olney, in St. Bartholomew in Bethesda and St. Thomas the Apostle in Washington, DC. In 1985 he was appointed by James Aloysius Cardinal Hickey director of the Spanish Catholic Center in Washington, an institution of the Archdiocese for the Hispanic community and the care of new immigrants with regard to legal assistance, education, employment and medical support. 1987-1988 was Farrell Director of Catholic Charities. From 1989 to 2001 he was Financial Secretary of the Archdiocese of Washington. 1995 Pope John Paul II appointed him Prelate to His Holiness, shortly afterwards, Monsignor. After pastoral work as a priest in the northwest of Washington, he was appointed Vicar General and Moderator of the Curia for the Archdiocese.

Pope John Paul II appointed him on 28 December 2001 as Titular Bishop of Rusuccuru and auxiliary bishop in the Archdiocese of Washington. The episcopal ordination on 11 February 2002 gave him the Archbishop of Washington, Cardinal Theodore Edgar McCarrick; Co-consecrators were James Aloysius Cardinal Hickey, Archbishop Emeritus of Washington, and Leonard James Olivier, SVD, Auxiliary Bishop of Washington.

Bishop Farrell was a member of the Board of Directors of CLINIC ( Catholic Legal Immigration Network) and a member of several committees of the U.S. Conference of Bishops (United States Conference of Catholic Bishops; Consecrated Life; Migration and Hispanic Affairs )

On March 6, 2007 Kevin Farrell of Pope Benedict XVI. appointed the seventh bishop of the Diocese of Dallas; The inauguration took place on 1 May 2007 in the Cathedral Santuario de Guadalupe in Dallas.

Kevin Farrell speaks both English and Italian and Spanish. His brother Brian Farrell LC Curia Bishop and since 2002 secretary of the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity.
