Kewpie

The Kewpie Kewpie Doll or is a doll. The name is derived from the Roman god Cupid.

History

She became famous at the beginning of the 20th century when it was first produced in Ohrdruf in Thuringia in 1913. The templates are from drawings of the American Rose O'Neill (1874-1944), who gave the production in Germany in order. The material then Biscuitporzellan and Celluloid was used. The production of celluloid were adjusted according to a department store fire because of the high flammability of the material. From the late 1940s began production in hard plastic. Popular the Kewpie was after the Second World War in occupied Japan, where it was also produced. The originating from this period dolls bear the inscription "Made in occupied Japan".
