After the October Revolution, the horse-drawn tram was expropriated and umgespurt and electrified in the following years. The network of meter-gauge tram grew up in the 1920s to more than 65 km. In the years 1927 to 1930 this network was umgespurt at 1,524 millimeters. The routes were extended in the following decades further and reached their maximum extension of 230 kilometers in the 1980s. On these routes perverted 31 lines with about 600 vehicles.

After the collapse of the USSR, the situation of the company deteriorated rapidly. Due to the disastrous financial condition, revenues from ticket sales fell from practical, the power could not be maintained. Also on the purchase of new vehicles was not thinking. To save the track, it passed into the possession of the city and became a part of public utilities.

Despite the good utilization of vehicles, daily around one million passengers are carried, is the future of the railways uncertain. This is mainly due to the difficult financial situation of the web. By revenue, the web is just being able to generate ongoing operating costs. Money for the upkeep of the network or for the purchase of new car is as good as not available.
